Arrival and first day

Arrived yesterday in a village near Ubud, where we will be for the next 10 days. So hot and humid... Hard to get used to, when I left home in several inches of snow. Great to reconnect with Kiranada, who organized this all, and lovely to be here with other batik artists.
Awakened in the middle of the night by a loud squawk at the end of my bed. Assume it was a gecko, since the chickens were quietly roosting. However it was definitely a chorus of roosters who woke me this morning at sunrise!
A leisurely stroll around the neighborhood this morning, and a lovely lunch at a small Japanese bistro.

Wonder if that mystery squawker will return tonight?

For the next few weeks I'll be joining fiber artist friends in Bali to experience batik in a culture that has brought this ancient craft to a high level of artistic expression.
